Abstract
Objective: The purposes of this study are to review clinical aspect and to evaluate the perinatal outcome and the prognostic factors of fetal gastroschisis. Materials and methods: Data were collected retrospectively with the review
of
maternal & neonatal records. Results: The incidence of fetal gastroschisis was one in 1,500 births (17/25, 545) in this study. The average gestational age at birth was 37+6weeks. There were 4 cases(31%) born at less than 37
weeks.
Five
cases(38%) were delivered by cesarean section. Average birth weight was 2538£ç and there were 6 cases(46%) with IUGR. Two cases out of 13(15%) had associated anomalies, one with single umbilical artery and the other with the malrotation of bowel.
The
average time to operation from delivery was 247 minutes(25-1481min.). The overall survival rate was 85%(2 out of 13 live birth cases). Two expired cases had severe bowel edema. Conclusion: The survival rate of fetal gastroschisis is high
with
operative correction. Because of the small population, we could not identify any significant prognostic factors. However, severe bowel edema might be as one of the significant prognostic factors. In the future, the prospective study with the
large
population is needed to understand the exact meaning of the bowel edema in the prognosis of fetal gastroschisis.
